A total open-air fire ban is now in effect across Port Colborne as wildfire smoke continues to impact air quality in the region.
Port Colborne Fire Chief Stan Double has issued the ban effective immediately, prohibiting all open-air fires, including campfires, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, chimineas, cooking fires and sky lanterns.
The restriction applies across the entire city, including both urban and rural areas and campgrounds such as Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores. Residents are also being reminded to monitor air quality conditions and take precautions while smoke from wildfires continues.
