The City of St. Catharines and the Friends of Malcolmson Eco-Park are planning a controlled burn at the park sometime in March or April.
St. Catharines Fire Services has approved the four-to-six-hour burn, which will help restore the prairie grassland by adding nutrients to the soil and reducing invasive species.
Volunteers will first check the area for wildlife to ensure animals like birds, reptiles and amphibians are protected.
The park will be closed during the burn and nearby residents will be notified once the date is confirmed.
