Summer may be winding down in Welland, but the city is already gearing up for a busy fall and winter recreation season.
Manager of Business and Community Services Amanda Degazio says while summer is the city's busiest season, there’s plenty to keep residents and visitors active once the temperatures drop.
Fall programming registration opens August 25th, with about 132 programs available over a 10-week session. The city’s arenas will offer public skating, shinny hockey and all-ages skates, while the community centre will have programs ranging from quilting and fitness to better mobility and access to a therapy pool.
Recreation isn't just about staying busy, as Degazio says year-round programming helps keep people connected, especially during the colder months.
The city is also planning a full slate of fall and winter events, including Lights, Sprites and Sights for Halloween, the Winter Lights display, the Santa Claus Parade and tree lighting, and the Christmas Market at the Welland Farmers' Market.
Degazio says planning for that transition is already well underway, even as the city continues to enjoy the final weeks of summer.
