What's Good in Niagara? St. Catharines has a new Firefighter Training Tower

St. Catharines will be the 'hotspot' for firefighter training for years to come.

Monday, the city opened a new training facility below the Burgoyne Bridge that features a four-storey tower, including three live-burn rooms and a dedicated survival and rescue space.

St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe also emphasized the addition of shower rooms as a key factor for the health and safety of everyone training there.

The new site is expected to support over 650 firefighters over the next five years. Fire Chief Dave Upper said, after nearly a decade of his firefighters having to train in other locations, he's excited to have a tower back in the city.

In addition to St. Catharines, the facility will also deliver training with fire and emergency services in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Thorold, Lincoln, and Pelham.
