Welland is celebrating the 60th anniversary of St. George Park with a special Family Day honouring the legacy of Rosie Smith, known as the “Heart and Soul of Welland.”
Smith spent more than 50 years volunteering and was passionate about family and making sure every child had access to free recreation.
Her dedication helped inspire the creation of Welland Recreational Projects.
Volunteer Committee member event planner, Jane Thompson talks about Rosie Smith.
The day includes a pizza-eating contest and a performance by Mystic Highway: A Tribute to CCR/John Fogerty.
There will be a 60th anniversary cake cutting at 6 p.m., and fireworks to wrap up the celebration at dusk
St. George Family Day takes place Sunday, August 16, from 1 to 9 p.m. at St. George Park, with face painting, rock climbing, interactive games, food and live music.
