What's Good in Niagara? Local choreographer's routine top in the world thanks to hit country song

Southern Ontario line dancing is getting international attention, thanks to local instructor and choreographer Nidhi Risi.

One of her original line dances, set to Ella Langley’s song She’s in Texas, has climbed to number one on a global line-dance chart - a surprise even to her.

Risi says the dance quickly caught on, with teachers sharing it across Ontario, the U.S., and beyond.

The rankings are based on online interest, measured by clicks over a rolling seven-day period, and her choreography has already drawn more than 7,000 views.

She says the key to the dance’s popularity is keeping it simple and accessible for beginners, while still matching the feel of the music. Risi says line dancing is something that lots of people are trying for the first time recently.

Choosin' Texas is also the number one song on Billboard's Hot Country charts. Risi teaches weekly drop-in classes in Port Colborne and Niagara Falls, welcoming dancers of all skill levels.
