Canadian country star Tim Hicks is getting ready to take the stage in St. Catharines for a concert that's about more than just music.
The Niagara-born-and-raised singer will perform at the Light of Day Festival Niagara on November 7th at the Meridian Centre, helping raise money for Parkinson's research and access to specialized care in the region.
For Hicks, the cause is a personal one. He says his family's experience with Parkinson's, combined with his connection to Niagara, made taking part an easy decision.
Hicks says the fundraising helps support access to high-quality care close to home, including rehabilitation services at Hotel Dieu Shaver in St. Catharines.
And while the cause is an important reason to be involved, performing in his own backyard brings its own motivation.
Hicks says hometown shows come with a little extra pressure, with family, friends and familiar faces in the crowd.
The festival also offers a diverse lineup that goes beyond country music. Hicks says he's excited to share the bill with artists from different genres, including former Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page, as well as Niagara talent like Evan Rotella.
He says the variety gives audiences a chance to discover performers they might not otherwise get to hear.
The Light of Day Festival Niagara will raise funds for Parkinson's research and support access to care for people in the region. Tickets and more information can be found here.
