The St. Catharines Terry Fox Run has done it again - setting a new fundraising record for the second straight year.
The event raised $132,000 this year, surpassing last year’s record total of $116,000. Organizing Committee Chair John Grummett says the response from the community was especially impressive given the windy and cool conditions on race day.
The Terry Fox Run may take place every September, but putting it together is a year-round effort. Grummett says planning gets underway around March, with additional fundraising events, including a trivia night held in May, helping keep Terry's legacy and the cause of cancer research in the spotlight.
And that support isn't limited to people who live in St. Catharines. Grummett says this year's run even attracted someone from New Jersey after she heard him speak at a conference in Vancouver.
With $132,000 raised, the St. Catharines Terry Fox Run has once again shown just how much can happen when a community comes together for a cause that means so much to so many.
