The Niagara IceDogs are getting set to hit the ice for a new Ontario Hockey League season - and there’s a sense of optimism surrounding the team as a new leadership group takes over.
New Country 89.1 play-by-play commentator Reece Doumani says the biggest difference he noticed during the preseason was the team's compete level, along with an emphasis on the smaller details of the game under new head coach Jake Grimes.
The IceDogs will open the regular season on the road Friday in Branford before returning home to the Meridian Centre for their first home game of the season tomorrow.
Doumani says the Meridian Centre is one of his favourite arenas in the league - and he's hoping to see it packed once again.
Doumani will be behind the microphone for every IceDogs game this season on New Country 89.1, giving Niagara fans a front-row seat to what's shaping up to be an exciting new chapter for the team.
