Welland mental health counsellor arrested, charged with assault

Niagara Regional Police are investigating an alleged assault at the Mountainview Centre for Innovative Learning in Welland.

Police say concerns were raised about a mental health counsellor using restraint techniques outside their training on a student at the Pathstones operated school, which supports children with mental health and learning challenges.

Investigators say the force used amounted to assault.

22-year-old Madison Porkolab of Grimsby has been charged with one count of assault and released with a future court date.

Detectives believe there could be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Niagara Regional Police.
