Welland Mayor Frank Campion is applauding new federal bail and sentencing reforms.
Campion says he pushed for changes following a violent incident in the city last year involving a repeat offender.
He says the new legislation makes it tougher for repeat and violent offenders to get bail and strengthens penalties for serious crimes, including home invasions, human trafficking and organized crime.
Campion thanked Minister Sean Fraser and the federal government, saying the changes will help make communities safer.
