The Township of West Lincoln teamed up with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and local volunteers to plant 800 new trees along Twenty Mile Creek in Smithville on Saturday.
The effort included 13 species of native trees and supports the Trees for All program, which contributes to Canada’s goal of planting 2 billion trees while improving the Niagara Peninsula watershed.
Located behind Creek View Drive, the planting will help reduce flooding, boost tree coverage, and restore Carolinian habitat.
The site will be monitored over the coming years to assess growth and overall health.
