As cleanup continues after a powerful storm in Thorold over the weekend, we now have confirmation it was not a tornado.
That's according to Dr. David Sills of the Northern Tornadoes Project based in London. Dr. Sills says the damage is more consistent with other storms over the past week across Ontario, and more than likely just from strong thunderstorm winds.
The storm knocked out power for many residents of Thorold throughout the weekend, including the closure of the Lock 7 Viewing Area and Thorold Public Library. Hydro One is still working to get some customers back online.
The Northern Tornado Project also investigated tornados in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie in summer 2024.
