Niagara Regional Police responded to a reported weapons incident in Port Colborne, initially at a Fares Street residence where 42-year-old Mark Pero of Port Colborne was found dead.
A second address on Mitchell Street was checked, and residents were asked to stay home while local schools held and secured.
27-year-old Brady Neff was identified as the suspect. He's been charged with second degree murder, domestic assault, uttering threats, choking and pointing a firearm.
After a continued search, officers located and arrested Neff near Killaly Street East and Welland Street at around 3 p.m.
He remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing Thursday. Police thanked the community for their assistance.
