St. Catharines' Siscoe, Welland's Campion both support four-city model for Niagara

Talks of amalgamation in the Niagara Region are heating up, with a pair of mayors endorsing a four-city model.

St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe and Welland Mayor Frank Campion have both said they believe a four-city system would make the most sense, adding it would align municipalities more by population and shared interests.

This comes after a letter from Regional Chair Bob Gale, asking the region's 12 mayors to consider both a four-city and one-city model.

On the flip side, Niagara-on-the-Lake Mayor Gary Zalepa says he's opposed to any proposal that sees the town being absorbed.

Port Colborne Bill Steele says he supports examining the options, while Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop wants to see more transparency with the process, calling more public consultation.
