The Housing Accelerator Fund in St. Catharines is being credited for a record year in building permits.
The city announced the issuing of 1,025 permits for new dwellings during the second year of the fund's action plan, 310 over its target and blowing past the previous nine-year trend by more than 500.
The fund is supported through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, working to increase the housing supply in areas around the nation dealing with a shortage of homes.
The city said the building boom looks to continue in 2026, with permits for almost 500 additional units expected and other major projects likely to come later this year.
