St. Catharines is now accepting groups of volunteers that are interested in hosting outdoor ice skating in their neighborhoods.
With a grant of up to $1,000 by the city, volunteers are responsible for sourcing all materials needed to build, operate and maintain an ice rink from December 1, to March 31.
They are also responsible for the safety of community members and must provide free and equal access to outdoor rinks. A flat surface, acceptable lighting and parking is required.
The city will provide signage and training on rink construction and requirements.
Applications are due by November 6th.
