Automated speed cameras will be installed, but enforcement won’t begin until all safety measures are in place
Niagara Region is rolling out a series of speed limit and signage updates this month in eight Community Safety Zones, as part of its Vision Zero plan to eliminate traffic injuries and fatalities.
Prompted by driver confusion following the launch of the Automated Speed Enforcement program in 2023, the Region is standardizing speed limits near schools and enhancing signage clarity.
Key updates include consistent, all-day reduced speed limits in most school zones, clearer criteria for school zone designation, and new traffic calming features like flex-post bollards and pavement markings.
Automated speed cameras will be installed, but enforcement won’t begin until all safety measures are in place.
