It is Snowmobile Safety Week in Ontario, as OPP are reminding riders that every trip should begin with safety in mind.
Police say smart, responsible choices can greatly reduce the risk of serious injury or death.
Since 2014, 145 snowmobilers died in OPP-policed areas, with speeding, impaired operation, and carelessness cited as the leading causes.
Frozen waterways remain especially dangerous, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of fatalities. Safety Week runs until February 16th.
