Ryan Roobroeck's second of the game was the overtime winner on a snowy Sunday at the Meridian Centre, 4-3 over the visiting Brampton Steelheads. The goal, Roobroeck's 26th of the season, was also his 96th for the IceDogs, moving him to 5th all-time for Niagara.
A back and forth affair began with Ryerson Edgar tipping home his 14th on a Hayden Reid shot from the left point at 6:41. The first period ended tied at one, as Brampton scored late on a power-play.
Early in period two, the visitors took their only lead of the day before Roobroeck would respond. Riley Patterson, in his first game back from injury, and Jakob Chromiak provided the assists at 13:35.
Ten seconds into the third, Ethan Czata stole a puck in deep in the Steelheads zone and fed Patterson for his 24th of the year. That lead stood up until the 12:02 mark when once again, a game Steelheads team would respond. Over 60 minutes, the IceDogs were outshot 31-26.
In the extra period, Roobroeck was clipped by a high-stick, the double minor sent the IceDogs to a power-play for the remainder of overtime. Back from getting repairs, Ryan Roobroeck fired home the winner at 2:46. His third overtime goal, ties current team-mate Patterson and Alex Friesen from 2009-2010 for the most OT goals in an IceDogs season.
The IceDogs will once again be home Thursday night to take on the Soo Greyhounds. It's a 7pm puck drop, with the pre-game show on New Country 89.1 at 6:45.
