Niagara Regional Police are reporting a police-involved shooting that occurred late Wednesday morning in Niagara Falls.
The incident happened around 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of Stanley Avenue and Peer Street and involved members of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Unit.
The ROPE Unit is a specialized team made up of officers from various police services across the province.
Because the incident involved multiple policing agencies, the province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate to investigate.
As a result, Niagara Regional Police say they cannot provide further details at this time.
NRPS confirmed that none of its officers were directly involved in the incident, although they did assist in the response.
Police also emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
