Salit Steel is preparing to permanently close its Stanley Avenue facility in Niagara Falls following the sale of the property.
The fifth-generation, family-owned company says the decision comes after careful consideration of challenging market conditions, including tariffs on steel and a slowdown in home construction.
The company has been part of Niagara Falls for more than 120 years, with the Stanley Avenue site serving as its headquarters for almost six decades.
Despite the closure, Salit Steel says it will maintain its presence in Niagara, with operations in Fort Erie, Welland, Thorold and Grimsby and about 250 employees across the region.
