A traffic stop in Welland has led to the seizure of a large quantity of suspected drugs, stolen licence plates and several weapons.

Police say officers stopped a GMC Sierra on Dorothy Street Saturday, and arrested the driver for using plates not authorized for the vehicle.

Investigators say a search uncovered suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, MDMA and LSD, along with dozens of prescription pills, cannabis, three stolen plates, a machete, knives and an expandable baton.

39-year-old Trevor McLaren, and 34-year-old Mario Michienzi, both of Welland, are facing multiple drug trafficking and other charges.

The pair appeared for a bail hearing Sunday in St. Catharines.
