Empty red dresses displayed across Brock University and Niagara College campuses this week serve as a powerful reminder of the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people, and the lasting impact on their communities.
The displays are part of REDress Day, an initiative created by Métis artist Jaime Black to honour those lost to colonial violence.
Observed annually every around February 14th, REDress Day aligns with the Women’s Memorial March and calls attention to ongoing systemic injustices.
Community members are invited to a day of remembrance and learning on Friday featuring discussions, workshops, cultural demonstrations and a collaborative art project.
