The Ontario government is investing more than $20 million to support operations and reduce wait times at Niagara Health and Hotel Dieu Shaver in St. Catharines.
The funding is part of a $1.1 billion investment in hospitals across the province.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says the money will help keep emergency departments open, address rising operating costs and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgeries.
Niagara is also expanding access to MRI and CT services.
GNMI Medical Imaging in St. Catharines has received two new licences, doubling the number of MRI machines in Niagara from three to six, and increasing CT scanners from five to seven.
The province says the investment comes as Niagara adds nearly 600 hospital beds through projects including the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and the South Niagara Hospital.
