Premier Doug Ford is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to start building more ships in Ontario.

This after a $6.6-billion defence plan spending announcement by the Federal government earlier this week.

As it is now, most ships are built on the East Coast and in Quebec, whereas Ford wants to see more build in Ontario - including at Ontario Shipyards in St. Catharines.

A spokesperson for Defence Minister David McGuinty says the federal government intends to work with the industry across Canada to implement this new strategy.
