The City of Port Colborne is warning Canal Days vendors and local businesses to be on alert after a rise in fraudulent emails and payment requests targeting festival participants.
City officials say scammers have been impersonating staff and organizers through unofficial email accounts, often requesting e-transfers or personal and financial information.
Vendors are reminded that all official Canal Days communications will only come from City email addresses ending in @portcolborne.ca.
Anyone who receives a suspicious email or payment request is encouraged to contact the City to verify its legitimacy before taking any action.
