Port Colborne is moving ahead with a long-term plan to improve healthcare access in the community.
City Council has approved a new Community Health and Wellness Action Plan and directed staff to develop a business case for a potential Community Health Hub.
The plan follows more than 18 months of research and community consultation, as the city prepares for Niagara Health’s planned closure of the Port Colborne Urgent Care Centre in 2028.
The plan focuses on eight priorities, including primary care, diagnostic services, mental health, transportation and community-based care.
The proposed Health Hub could bring services like primary care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, mental health supports and rehabilitation together under one roof.
Staff will now examine potential locations, partnerships, costs and funding options, with the business case expected to return to Council after the 2026 municipal election.
