Port Colborne council passes by-law surrounding Airbnb, VRBO properties

Port Colborne City Council has approved a new by-law to license, regulate, and govern short-term rental accommodations in the city.

The by-law, passed on September 23, will take effect November 1 and applies to both existing and future rentals.

It outlines clear rules for properties listed on platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO, aiming to balance tourism and property owner opportunities with neighbourhood safety and quality of life.

Many license applications are expected from owners within Sun Retreats Sherkston Shores, which is zoned for Vacation Residential use.
