Police in Welland searching for sexual assault suspect

Niagara Regional Police are investigating a sexual assault reported in Welland.

On Wednesday, October 15 around 2 a.m., an adult female told police she had gone for a walk near Woodlawn Road and Clare Avenue around midnight. 

She said an unknown male sexually assaulted her and tried to pull her into a wooded area, but she managed to access her phone, prompting the suspect to stop and allowing her to escape.

The suspect is described as a Middle Eastern male, about 21 years old, 5’4” to 5’5”, with a heavy build, dark brown hair and a full beard, wearing a grey zip-up sweater with writing on the back and possibly black sweatpants.

Police are asking anyone with information or security footage from the area to come forward.
