PM Carney announces increases to GST benefits

Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled new affordability measures on Monday to help Canadians manage rising living costs.

The plan includes a Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit delivered through the GST rebate.

In the first year, a family of four could see support rise to about $1,890, with further increases planned over five years.

In the first year, eligible Canadians will receive a one-time boost. Starting next year, the GST rebate will increase by 25 per cent for four years. That means a family of four could receive up to $1,400 a year, while an individual could get about $700.
