A petition is calling on all levels of government to take action following the death of a Niagara-on-the-Lake migrant farmworker.
The Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, with support from the Niagara Community Legal Clinic, is urging elected officials to respond to the death of 39-year-old Sinhue Garcia, who was killed while cycling home from work on June 26.
Garcia was struck by a vehicle on Concession 6 near Line 4 Road. The seasonal farmworker from Mexico worked at St. David’s Hydroponics and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
The group says Garcia’s death highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and support for migrant workers. The petition is calling for improvements including safer transportation, road upgrades and increased support services.
