
Electricity providers targeted between February and March
Niagara Regional Police have arrested two men in connection with a series of break-ins at utility properties in St. Catharines and Thorold earlier this year.
Thieves targeted secured yards owned by electricity providers between February and March, stealing copper and tools. The copper was later sold to a local scrap yard.
44-year-old Joseph Ernest Speck of St. Catharines, was arrested April 7 and has since pleaded guilty to related charges. While in custody, he has faced additional break-and-enter charges.
On June 3, police also arrested 45-year-old Thomas E. Summerfield of Thorold.
He remains in custody after being charged with four counts of break and enter, trafficking stolen property, and violating court orders.
