The Ford government has officially proposed a plan allowing retailers across Ontario to open their doors on Family Day and Victoria Day.
In a statement released this afternoon, the province said they will prevent all municipalities from requiring stores to close on those two holidays, giving retailers the option of keeping their doors closed or opening them to the public.
They also added this will only apply on those two days, and that employees will still have all protections provided by the Employee Standards Act, including public holiday pay and the right to refuse work.
The government plans to have this change in effect for this year's upcoming Victoria Day in May.
