Ontario is looking to attract more than $3 billion in new gaming investment to Niagara, with plans to open the market to up to three new casino operators.
The province and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation say each operator would be required to invest at least $1.5 billion, with a $100 million entrance fee.
The expansion is expected to create more than 10,000 construction jobs and encourage another $600 million in private-sector investment.
The plan is part of Ontario’s Destination Niagara Strategy, which aims to more than double tourism to over 25 million visitors a year and create about 46,000 permanent jobs.
The first step is inviting experienced gaming companies to express interest, with shortlisted operators moving on to a competitive proposal process.
