An off-duty Niagara Regional Police Officer has been charged with impaired driving after a pursuit ended in a crash in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Police say officers tried to stop a Dodge Ram on York Road Thursday night, but the driver failed to stop, and the pursuit was eventually called off because of the vehicle’s reckless driving.
Minutes later, the truck collided with another vehicle near Four Mile Creek Road.
The 54-year-old driver, identified as NRPS Constable Paul-Andre Seguin of Fort Erie, was seriously injured and taken to an out-of-region hospital. No one else was hurt.
Seguin, a 21-year veteran assigned to uniform patrol, faces several charges including impaired operation, flight from police and dangerous driving.
He’s been suspended with pay pending an investigation, and the SIU has invoked its mandate because of the injuries.
