The Niagara Regional Police Service is warning homeowners to watch for contractor scams as outdoor repair season ramps up.
Constable Richard Hingley with the NRP say scammers posing as roofing or paving companies often use high-pressure tactics to convince residents urgent work is needed.
Victims are typically asked for a deposit, then later told the repairs are far more extensive and expensive than first quoted. In some cases, homeowners feel pressured to continue once work has already started.
Police recommend getting detailed written quotes, comparing estimates from multiple companies, and never rushing into a contract. Anyone who believes they’ve been targeted by a scam is urged to contact Niagara Regional Police.
