Niagara Regional Police are rolling out new in-car camera systems equipped with Automatic License Plate Reader technology in a move it says will enhance public safety and transparency.
Funded through a provincial grant, the systems will help identify plates linked to stolen vehicles, missing persons, and Highway Traffic Act violations.
The in-car cameras will also record video and audio of officer-public interactions, adding another layer of accountability.
The rollout begins with Traffic Enforcement vehicles, with full deployment expected by fall.
