Niagara Regional Police have suspended their use of Crime Stoppers following a reported cybersecurity breach involving a third-party platform used by Crime Stoppers organizations.
Police say some Niagara-related data was included in the breach, raising concerns about the privacy and safety of people who provide anonymous tips.
The NRPS says the Crime Stoppers platform is separate from its internal systems, and the police service is waiting for more information about the scope and potential impact of the incident.
Police say anyone facing an emergency or immediate threat to public safety should still call 9-1-1.
