A Niagara Falls police officer has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing after a 75-year-old woman fell from an apartment balcony in May.
Officers and paramedics were checking on the woman’s well-being when she threatened to jump, and an officer ran toward her after seeing her on the balcony.
The officer tried to grab her feet as she went over the railing, but was unable to stop the fall.
The woman was taken to hospital with a broken femur and admitted under the Mental Health Act.
After reviewing the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino found no reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed a criminal offence.
