Niagara Regional Police are receiving $300,000 from the Ontario government to help fight auto theft.

The funding is part of a $6 million provincial investment supporting 22 police projects, aimed at disrupting organized crime and recovering stolen vehicles.

The province says auto thefts across Ontario dropped to 19,319 last year, down 36% from the peak in 2023.

The funding can help police services pay for specialized training, investigative equipment, surveillance technology and public awareness campaigns.

The latest investment brings Ontario’s total funding through the Preventing Auto Thefts Grant Program to $24 million since 2023.
