The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority is keeping a close eye on flood risks as the spring thaw begins.
Heavy snow combined with warmer weather and rain can quickly raise water levels and cause pooling or ice jams.
The agency is using snow surveys and hydrometric monitoring stations to track conditions.
Residents are urged to keep drains clear, move valuables off basement floors and never walk or drive through floodwater.
Flood updates and advisories are available through NPCA’s website and Alertable app.
