NOTL tree wins provincial award due to historical signifigance

A 400-year-old White Oak on Lakeshore Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake has been named the 2025 Ontario Tree Pageant Winner, chosen from 80 nominations across the province.

Standing nearly 100 feet tall, the tree carries deep natural, cultural, and historic significance, having served as the boundary marker in Upper Canada’s first land deed signed in 1781.

The White Oak is now featured in the Town’s Witness Trees Program Interactive Map, where its story lives on alongside 24 other historic and culturally significant trees.
