Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Chief Administrative Officer is pushing back on what the Town calls misinformation surrounding its decision not to declare a state of emergency following recent flooding.
The CAO says an emergency declaration does not automatically unlock provincial or federal funding, and it is not a measure of how serious the damage is for residents, farmers or businesses.
The Town says the decision is based on whether additional emergency powers or resources are needed, and staff continue to assess damage, document costs and work with partner agencies.
Officials say the situation will continue to be monitored, and an emergency declaration will be made if it becomes necessary.
