No injuries, no cause known for fire at former St. Catharines Standard building

St. Catharines firefighters say a large fire at the former Standard building downtown is now under control.

As of yesterday afternoon, crews were still on site putting out hotspots from the blaze, while heavy equipment has been brought in to remove parts of the wreckage.

Crews were first called to the building around 11:00pm Friday, finding flames on the upper floor that quickly spread through the structure.

Queen Street and William Street remain closed between St. Paul Street and King Street, while the Ontario Street parking garage entrance was reopened for yesterday's IceDogs game.

No injuries have been reported, and officials say smoke does not pose a safety concern at this time. An investigation into the cause has not yet begun.
