A Niagara Region program bringing animals into long-term care homes is being recognized for making a difference in residents' lives.

The Pawsitivity program has received the Community Connections Award from AdvantAge Ontario.

The initiative helps reduce loneliness and boost emotional well-being by giving residents regular opportunities to spend time with animals.

The program is also helping local shelters, with some dogs finding permanent homes within weeks of participating in visits at Niagara's long-term care homes.
