Niagara West riding well above national average for voter turnout

Over 75% voter turnout in Niagara West

More than 68% of eligible voters cast their ballot during the most recent federal election - the most in a Canadian election since 1993.

That's according to Elections Canada, which says more than 19.5-million ballots were cast nationwide, including over 11-million on Monday alone.

Of Niagara's four ridings, Niagara West had the highest voter turnout at 75.72%. Niagara Falls/NOTL, Niagara South and St. Catharines were all within the 66-69% range.

Despite a higher-than usual number, it still falls short of the historic high recorded in March 1958, when over 79 percent of voters took part.
