Police say crash happened just after 6:30am Saturday

Niagara Regional Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in St. Catharines that has left a Welland man with life-threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the Welland Canal Parkway near the water treatment plant around 6:40 a.m. Saturday after a vehicle struck a hydro pole.

The 24-year-old driver was taken to hospital, where his condition later deteriorated and he remains in critical condition.

Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives have taken over the investigation and say there is no evidence another vehicle was involved, while asking anyone with dashcam or other video footage from the area to contact police.
