An extreme heat alert is in effect for Niagara, with Environment and Climate Change Canada warning of dangerously high temperatures over the next few days.

With many people expected to be outside in this warm weather, Niagara Region Public Health is urging everyone to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade or air conditioning when possible, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and never leave children, seniors or pets in parked vehicles.

Officials also encourage residents to check in on vulnerable neighbours and watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, nausea, confusion and fainting.
