Niagara Region joined communities worldwide yesterday in marking World Toilet Day, a UN observance highlighting the global sanitation crisis.
Over 2.4 billion people still lack access to basic sanitation, making safe wastewater management essential for health and environmental protection.
Niagara operates 11 wastewater treatment facilities, processing about 197 million litres of wastewater daily and helping protect the Great Lakes.
Residents are reminded to support local infrastructure by flushing only human waste and toilet paper.
Items like wipes, oils, chemicals and other materials can cause damage and costly repairs.
